This type of rotary rock drilling uses compressed air to remove rock cuttings from the borehole and to cool the tricone drill bit, eliminating the introduction of water to the borehole. Samples acquired using an air rock drill are more representative because they are less prone to contamination than other drilling methods. Air rotary drilling is best suited for unconsolidated formations where subsurface conditions include large rocks, boulders and debris and where more conventional mud rotary or hollow stem auger drilling is not possible. Aardvark Drilling owns several drills capable of drilling at angles less than 90°. Typical applications for this service include mineral exploration, fractured bedrock research and environmental site assessments where contaminants are suspect under buildings or other inaccessible structures. ← close
- Auger Drilling read more →
Auger drilling or boring is a conventional drilling system where holes are created by a rotating chiselled drill bit. Auger drilling rigs are very effective for overburden soil above rock formations and mineral deposits. This technique is commonly used for environmental and geotechnical sampling, as well as for construction and mining applications. Aardvark Drilling uses both types of auger drilling rigs:
Solid Stem Augers are used primarily for geotechnical drilling in consolidated soils. They are effective in soft to medium formations and are a great tool for creating small diameter boreholes without introducing any fluids. Solid augering is not effective in formations prone to collapse.
Hollow Stem Augers (2 3/4″, 4 1/4″, 6 1/4″, 10 1/4″) are used for unconsolidated soils, wet conditions and monitoring well installations. These are used when formations are prone to collapse. Hollow stem augers tend to be of a larger diameter, making for a slower process and greater amount of spoiler. ← close

Remote mineral exploration requires the transport of large equipment into places with limited or no access. Aardvark Drilling now provides diamond drilling services to remote and environmentally sensitive areas with the Zinex Mining Corporation A5 rig. The A5 is a heli portable high quality drill, cost effective to transport. It is capable of 2800 feet PQ, 3500 feet HQ, 5000 feet NQ, 6000 feet BQ. ← close

Aardvark owns and operates two Geoprobe 7822DTs, and a Geoprobe 6610DT. The 6610DT is ideal for indoor drilling and confined, difficult to reach locations. As its name suggests, mud rotary drilling uses a sharp, rotating drill bit to create boreholes in conjunction with mud to stabilize, remove cuttings, suppress downhole water and gas pressure, and lubricate the drilling string. Aardvark Drilling carries a wide variety of drilling muds including a polymer and additive free mud for environmentally sensitive tasks. Mud rotary drilling rigs are designed to drill a hole with a high penetration rate, making them extremely useful for deep exploration applications. ← close

- PQ Soil Coring read more →
Unlike other drilling applications, the goal of soil coring is not to dig a hole, but rather to gather a core sample, a long cylinder of soil that can be used to determine the composition of earth in a particular area. These samples are generally extracted using a series of tubes connected to barrel and then a special cutting bit at the end. In wireline coring, the barrel with the sample is brought to the surface with a wire while the rest of the tubes stay in the hole ensuring less contamination and making the whole operation more efficient.
Aardvark Drilling’s uses a standard large diameter (PQ) wireline retrievable soil coring system. This setup is capable of gathering high quality continuous overburden and rock samples for hydrogeolists, geological mapping and large diameter environmental applications. ← close

Aardvark Drilling’s diamond drilling services include exploratory rock coring. This technique gathers high quality cylindrical samples that allow geologists to determine the composition of the rock lying underground. Wireline methodology, which leaves the drilling string intact while bringing the rock core to the surface with a wire, ensures the least amount of contamination and most efficient gathering of samples.
Rock core drilling with water allows us to retrieve five-foot continuous samples of bedrock formations. (Air coring is also offered.) Aardvark Drilling uses NQ, HQ and PQ sizes depending on applications and requests. Larger sizes may be more beneficial for faulted rock. ← close

We have all the tooling and ancillary/support equipment needed for drilling medium and large diameter water supply wells. We also offer pump installation services and pump testing. ← close
- Well Abandonment read more →
We offer full decommissioning services for abandoned monitoring wells and other types of water wells not in service. The well abandonment process depends upon its original installation. Monitoring wells should be filled with a cement slurry from the bottom to the top. This more dense mixture displaces any water present in the well and fills the hole completely. In some cases, pressure grouting may be used as an extra safeguard when there is a considerable cross contamination risk. This process pumps the slurry into the well under pressure to ensure the most complete seal. Aardvark Drilling employs MOE certified well technicians with the expertise to deal with every possible water well abandonment situation. ← close

As well as water well abandonment, Aardvark Drilling provides well maintenance, rehabilitation and repair as part of our hydrogeologic services. Landowners (whether industrial, commercial or private) are often unaware of the presence of standpipes or monitoring wells on their property which can cause potential problems and may be an environmental concern. If such a water supply exists it is important to determine the precise status, condition, use or location. This is when well rehabilitation or maintenance services are necessary to ensure there are no contamination or safety issues. ← close
